Argentina and Chile Present Proposal for New Marine Protected Area
During the 36th Meeting of the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR), Argentina and Chile presented the recent work they have completed on a proposal for the establishment of a Marine Protected Area (AMP) in the western zone of the Antarctic Peninsula and the Southern Arc of Scotia.
The proposal was presented for the first time in detail before the Scientific Committee of the Commission that is composed of 25 Member States and is the fruit of several years of joint work of scientists of the Argentine Antarctic Institute (more…)
Argentina´s Hornocal Mountain: Spectacular Site
The world is full of natural attractions that we must visit. One of them is the Hornocal Mountain, located in the city of Humahuaca, Argentina, characterized by its 14 colors.
Similar to Vinincunca mountain in Peru, this fascinating destination is located at more than 4 thousand meters above sea level and is notable for its calcareous formation of numerous minerals that, when eroded by wind and rain, left their colors on the slopes of the mountains. Swiss Airline Edelweiss Begins Swiss-Argentine Route
The Lufthansa Group announced that Swiss International Airline, through its associated airline Edelweiss, will start flying the Buenos Aires – Zurich route in November of next year.
Initially, Edelweiss will have two weekly flights that will depart from Buenos Aires to Zurich on Monday and Thursday, returning to the Argentine capital on Sunday and Wednesday.
The Lufthansa Group will thus have 9 weekly flights between Argentina and Europe, all of them departing from Buenos Aires, of which 7 will have as final destination the city of Frankfurt (more…)
Three Argentines Make Prestigious MIT´s “Innovators Under 35” List
Three Argentines have made the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s (MIT) Technology Review s “Innovators under 35” list, an award for 35 outstanding innovators each year. According to its website, the award recognizes “individuals whose superb technical work promises to shape the coming decades,” and rewards “ingenious and elegant work that matters to the world at large—not just to peers in a particular field or industry.” The recipients include Santiago Siri, Agustina Fainguersch and Florencia Montini, were selected among more than 3,000 applicants. Trans-Andean Tunnel Between Argentina and Chile
The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has recently approved loans to both Argentina and Chile for the construction of The Black water (Agua Negra) Tunnel that will connect the two countries cutting through the Andes Mountain range that separates them.
One of the principal reasons for the desire to build the tunnel and the subsequent loan comes from the fact that the Agua Negra Pass is essentially inaccessible from May to October due to weather. By eliminating this obstacle, the project aims to improve access to international markets (more…)
Argentina Confirmed as One of Top Seeds
Argentina was confirmed as one of the top seeds of the 2018 World Cup in Russia as FIFA published their updated rankings which will be used to form the groups and matches to be held when the cup begins in Moscow.
Russia, the host country, Germany, Brazil, Portugal, Argentina, Belgium, Poland and France will make up the top seeds of the eight groups.
The draw to determine the playoffs that will qualify four European teams for the 2018 World Cup was held last week in the Swiss city of Zurich, home to the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA). (more…)
Amazon Company to Expand to Argentina
Amazon’s expansion plans in Latin America will not be limited to the Brazilian market. Argentina, which has one of the fastest growing e-commerce markets in the region, is also in the sights of the Seattle firm.
A source close to Amazon’s operations in the region confirmed that, as a result of the expansion and success of the company in Brazil, a branch would be opened in Argentina, although at first it will only operate as administrative and commercial headquarters.

Obama Attends Green Economy Summit in Argentina
Arriving to Cordoba with strong fanfare, Barack Obama attended the Green Economy Summit last week where the focus was on climate change. The event was organized by ALF – a non-profit organization based in Washington committed to the identification and training of world leaders.
While the meeting was dedicated to discussing climate change, former US President Barack Obama did not miss the opportunity to praise the economic job done by Argentina President Mauricio Macri and his administration. (more…)
First Public Bookstore Argentina in Mendoza
The first national public bookstore in Argentina was inaugurated this week during this year´s Mendoza Book Fair and will sell only work by authors from Mendoza.
Diego Gareca, secretary of Culture of Mendoza, referred to the only public bookstore at the national level: “The intention of this is to be able to sell and market the works of only writers from Mendoza. This is the first of its kind and the intention is to be able to explain it to the rest of the province and to accustom the people of Mendoza to buying books that we can make examples of from our province. ” (more…)
Argentina Targeted by African Nations as Potential Trade Partner
Argentina is growing rapidly economically and has aroused interest around the world. According to Finance Minister Luis Caputo, “Argentina will be the star of the region in the coming decades.”
Just like Argentina, two of the world’s fastest growing countries are in Africa. Due to this fact, the nation and the province of Santa Fe are promoting the Second LAC Africa Business Summit to be held from 3 to 5 October at the Rosario Stock Exchange. (more…)
