Iranian Messi Doppleganger Causes Commotion
A Lionel Messi doppleganger from Iran caused commotion in his hometown a few weekends ago. The lookalike, 25 year-old Reza Paratesh of Hamedan in eastern Iran, was first told he resembled Messi by his father.
Inspired by this, Paratesh took to the streets sporting a Barcelona jersey and Messi´s signature reddish beard.
It didn´t take long before Paratesh was mobbed by people wanting to pose for photo-ops with the self-proclaimed ¨Iranian Messi.¨ In fact, Paratesh caused so great a scene that local police actually hauled him off for a bit because traffic was getting so bad. (more…)
Argentina Creates First National Craft Beer
Beer lovers across Argentina now have something to celebrate, as Argentina has just created its first national craft beer. This is the first ever artisanal beer to be 100% sourced and created in Argentina.
This beer was both funded and developed by Argentine scientists. For example, the National Council for Scientific and Technical Research was responsible for funding this effort.
However, the actual development of the beer was done by a different group of scientists—the Andean-Patagonian Institute of Biological and Environmental Technologies. (more…)
President Switzerland Talks Green Investment in Argentina
The president of Switzerland, Doris Leuthard, paid a visit to Argentina last week to talk green investment. Leuthard made history as the first ever Swiss president to visit the country of Argentina.
During this historic visit, Leuthard met with both Argentine president, Mauricio Macri, and the Departments of Energy, Treasury, Environment, and Transportation.
This visit was an important stepping stone into encouraging more Swiss investment in Argentina. Switzerland is already a big foreign investor in Argentina. (more…)
World´s 50 Best Restaurants List Features Argentine Chefs
The World´s 50 Best Restaurants in 2017 features two Argentine chefs. Specifically, this list featured the respective restaurants of Argentine chefs Germán Martitegui and Mauro Colagreco.
While Martitegui´s restaurant, Tegui, finished 49th, Colagreco´s restaurant, Mirazuar, made it all the way to 4th place.
Both of these two chefs have had illustrious careers over the years. In fact, for Maritegui this will be the third time that Tegui has made the list. For Colagreco, his success has mostly been recognized abroad (more…)

The Cordoba region has the potential to become Argentina’s next up-and-coming tourist attraction. The travel website La Ruta de Las Sierras has anticipated this, as they have produced a step-by-step itinerary for travelers to the region.
The itinerary provided by La Ruta de Las Sierras spans five days and offers a sampling of what they believe to be the best of the region. According this itinerary, the region has tons to offer in gastronomy, culture, nature, oddities, and art.

City of Rosario to Install Cellphone Friendly Crosswalks
The city of Rosario in Argentina will install cell phone friendly crosswalks as a measure to mitigate to increased number of accidents involving pedestrians in the city.
The crosswalk will be synched up with the traffic lights and will shine a light on the ground to indicate what color the traffic light is. This way, pedestrians who are looking down at their phones will be alerted when it’s safe to cross.
12 of these special crosswalks are planned to be installed at intersections around the city. (more…)
Argentine Tournament Returns with a Bang
The Argentine tournament first division returned this weekend with a bang. Following the break in action caused by a player’s strike, the excitement of this weekend was a welcome change for Argentine football fans.
The excitement began on Thursday, with the 21st place Vélaz Sanderfield pulling out a surprise win over the fourth-ranked Estudiantes.
It continued into the weekend with San Lorenzo beating Belgrano, maintaining their spot at the top of the pack in third place. Additionally, Racing went on to avenge their loss to Uruguay’s Nacional team with a 3-0 victory. (more…)

Three Argentine startups are the receipts of an award given by United Airlines and Microsoft. The award is given to startups that are making positive changes around the world.
The three Argentine startups that received this award were uSound, Atomic Lab, and Gi Fly.
uSound is an app that is a less costly alternative to hearing aids. It manipulates sound for its users according to their particular needs.
Atomic Lab uses 3D printing in order to create cheaper, more accessible prosthetics for patients. (more…)
Under 20 Argentine Team Headed for World Cup
The Argentine Under 20 Team is officially headed to the World Cup in South Korea after a 2-0 win over Venezuela on Saturday.
Despite their success on Saturday, the road to victory was rocky. Due to several losses earlier on in the tournament, the Under 20 Team needed the perfect storm to still qualify.
Essentially, in order for the Argentine team to secure a berth in the World Cup, Argentina needed to win by a greater margin than the other teams, and Brazil needed to lose to Colombia.
Argentina´s Inflation Issue
A normal inflation rate might increase and decrease by a few percentage points, yet Argentina´s highly increasing inflation rate shows that it has a real issue.
The start of a new year sees new rates in taxes, and also in the rate of inflation. Last year, Macri´s government predicted 20-25% inflation, but it ended up being around 41%.
This year, the government projected an 18% inflation rate. However, many believe that the rate will more likely be around 23-25%.
This belief is due to the recent increase in gas, electricity, and medicine. (more…)
