The National Institute of Statistics and Census of Argentina (INDEC) recently announced that unemployment in Argentina has decreased.
INDEC specifically announced that the unemployment rate dropped from 9.3% to 8.5% during the third quarter of this year.
This signifies a 0.8% decrease in the unemployment rate from the previous quarter. Furthermore, this number represents 110,000 new jobs that were newly occupied in the last few months.
Last year, the government claimed the unemployment rate to be 5.9%. (more…)
The Argentina football team recently lost to Brazil in the World Cup Qualifiers, and now they are dealing with defeat.
Some debate that the leaders of Argentinian football are not taking the defeat seriously, and that said leaders are not operating with a realistic outlook.
For example, many people criticized Coach Edgardo Bauza´s reaction to the loss. Bauza said, ´´Brazil did not thrash Argentina. We had the ball, as they did. But they had space, they set up deep with nine players and came out quickly, but it was not a thrashing.´´
Cheap Domestic Flights Coming Soon to Argentina
LATAM Airline Group asserts that cheap domestic flights are coming soon to Argentina at the beginning of next year.
LATAM is Latin America´s largest carrier, a popular choice among both national and international travelers. The airline has asserted that flight prices will be 20% cheaper.
This will be made possible with the airline´s new travel model. This model allows travelers to elect exactly what they want to pay for on their flight.
For example, travelers can choose to pay to check a bag, to select a good seat, to have food during the flight or to be able to refund the flight upon cancellation. (more…)
Four Stray Dogs Attack Penguin Colony in Southern Argentina
In southern Argentina, four stray dogs attacked a penguin colony. They ended up killing almost 400 penguins on the reserve.
These penguins belong to the Magellanic penguin colony, which lives on one of the eight islands in the Puerto Deseado reserve.
A few weeks back, tourists in the area spotted four dogs making their way to the island. This coincides with the researchers´ estimate of the time of death of the penguins.
Furthermore, the teeth marks in the penguins and the fact that they were uneaten point all evidence to the four stray dogs. (more…)
Conference Discusses Fracking in Argentina
Recently, a conference was held in Buenos Aires, Argentina to discuss the reality of fracking in Argentina.
The organizations Observatorio Petrolero Sur and Taller Ecologista instigated the event in order to increase awareness of environmental issues and heath.
Numerous scientists, government officials, and experts attended the event. Some especially honored guests were three women from New York: Dr. Sandra Steingraber, Dr. Kathleen Nolan and Colleen Boland.
Dr. Steingraber and Dr. Nolan both worked with a group that is against fracking called Concerned Health Professionals of New York. (more…)
Pressure On as Argentina faces Brazil
The pressure is on Argentina´s football team as they face Brazil in the 11th round qualifiers for the 2018 World Cup.
As the Argentinian team has faced much disappointment and change over the last year, with the loss to Chile in the finals of Copa Centenario, the change of coach, and Messi´s announcement of retirement, this is an important time.

New $200 Bill Officially in Circulation
The Central Bank of Argentina has officially released the new $200 bill in circulation. It was released on Wednesday, October 26th.
The bill was introduced by the president of Central Bank, Federico Sturzenegger, at a conference in Patagonia.
The new $200 bill has a Southern Right Whale pictured on the front. These whales are found along the coast of the south of Argentina and are known for bringing many tourists to the region for whale watching.
Sturzenegger commented on the reason why this whale was chosen as the symbol for the new $200 bill (more…)
Is it Time for Change on the Argentina National Team?
Over the last decade, there has been a specific group of players that have dominated Argentina´s national team and have truly made it great. However, some wonder if it is time for a change on the Argentina football team.
Starting in 2005, a group of five junior players united in the Junior World Cups. Ever since then, these players have been the face of Argentina´s team and have contributed to its successes over the years.
The key player in this group of players is Lionel Messi, who quickly rose to success and became known as one of the greatest players in the world.

Argentine Priest Canonized as a Saint
The Catholic Church has recently canonized an Argentine priest, José Gabriel Borchero, as a saint. The event took place on Sunday, October 16th at St. Peter´s Basilica in Rome.
Argentina´s President, Mauricio Macri, traveled to Rome to meet with Pope Francis about this exciting development for Argentina.
Pope Francis also canonized two martyrs, three other priests and a nun as saints. However, most of the focus was on José Gabriel Borchero, who was well-known for his generosity and care for the poor of Argentina.

Messi Aims to Retire as World Cup Winner
Coming out of retirement to play for Argentina, Lionel Messi aims to retire from his international team as a World Cup winner.
After losing to Chile in Copa America a few months ago, Messi swiftly announced his retirement from the national team. However, he agreed to come back to Argentina´s team with the intent of taking home the World Cup trophy.
Argentina´s coach, Edgardo Bauza, believes in Messi´s determination and ability to contribute to the team. He says, ´´I reckon he still has a lot to give to the team. He deserves to take his retirement in another way-he deserves to end his international career as a champion.´´
