Last weekend has certainly been a good one for Argentina, especially when it comes to sports. Despite the fact that very few people were aware that the Hockey World Cup was going on the last 3 weeks, the Argentinean teams were both quite successful! The Women as well as the men field-hockey team of Argentina got themselves a bronze medal as they ended on the 3rd place during the Hockey World Cup 2014 in the Hague, the Netherlands.

Moreover, the San Antonio Spurs won their fifth NBA (National Basketball Association) title, Sunday night during the fifth game of the final against Miami Heat with 104-87. Miami Heat already won the title two times after each other. Kawhi Leonard, a player of San Antonio was awarded as Most Valuable Player. He scored 22 points in the decisive final game.

Last but not least, the Argentinean football selection played their first match of the FIFA World Cup 2014 against Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Maracana stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This stadium is one of the biggest in the world and was originally built for the World Cup in 1950.

Sead Kolasinac from Bosnia and Herzegovina made a huge mistake by scoring an own goal within the first three minutes. Argentina had to work hard to keep the goals out of the net, but luckily, best player of the world: Lionel Messi found a way to score the second goal. Although it wasn’t their best game ever, they were able to win with 2 – 1. According to their coach: Alejandro Sabella, they have to improve a lot if they want to win the other games.
Argentina will play its second match against Iran, Saturday June 21 at 1 PM.
