After an early start from Malargue City/Las Lenas Ski Centre, we head to Payunia Park, visiting La Pasarela on the way; a point where the Rio Grande forces its way th qrough a deep crack in the volcanic rock creating a very spectacular sight and sound. Here we see some impressive traces of previous volcanic action in the form of lava streams and volcanic cones. After spending around an hour here, appreciating the magnificent natural formations, we cross one of Mendoza’s richest oil wells; Palauco and Fortunoso. Moving on, we experience the breathtaking scenery of Pampas Negras (Black Pampas), La Herradura (The Horseshoe), Los Morados ( The Purple Mountain), Las bombas ( The Bombs) and more, also taking the opportunity to spot birds such as the Guanacos and Choiques (Little Ostrich). After this, we return to Santa Maria volcano where we begin our climb up the Payun Matru volcano, trekking around its crater and lake, and through its lava stream. After lunch, we begin our decent stopping off at a point to admire the spectacular scenery of Payunia Park. We then return to Malargue for an evening of reflection on a truly memorable tour.
