Patagonia to be seen on Google Earth thanks to giant placard

7 February, 2012

Patagonia on Google Earth thanksRed Solidaria launched in Bariloche a campaign to build a giant placard with plastic bottles, reading www.elegimospatagonia.com, so it can be photographed by Google Earth and can help promote the region affected by Chilean Volcano Puyehue.

The campaign will invite neighbours and tourists to leave used bottles at collection points across the city so they can be stored in warehouses belonging to the Army, the National Gendarmerie and other entities.

Once about 250.000 bottles have been collected, they will be taken to grounds close to Bariloche airport so that neighbours make the placard that will be 5 kilometres long.

The idea is to also sell the bottles once the placard has been photographed by the satellite, with the objective of continuing with the land purchasing campaign in Chaco to prevent deforestation.

The webpage, which is not online yet, will include general information about the region and specially about the cities of Bariloche and Villa La Angostura, which were the worst affected by the Chilean Volcano.
