shared heritage of freshwater and biologicalThe fresh water shared by Argentina and Paraguay, source of life and energy, as well as the biological and cultural diversity, are the greater potentials of both countries who face the challenge of changing the matrix based on farming production for export, stated Paraguay’s Environment Minister, Oscar Rivas.

"Argentina and Paraguay are two countries which share one of humanity’s greatest treasures, the Plate basin, which is among the five most important water systems in the world and the second on the continent", said Rivas to Télam.

In an interview at the Paraguayan Embassy in Buenos Aires, Rivas said that "the Plate basin is one of the richest territories in the planet with Paraguay entirely in it and a large part of the most important areas for Argentine production, history, population and economies".

"Everything we do, with positive or negative impact, is something we have in common with Argentina and from the fresh water we share comes another element that results in clean hydro energy, although it is not free from environmental impact", he explained.

In Rivas´opinion, the third aspect that both countries share is "biodiversity, not only in strictly biological terms but also given the genetic potential which has been key towards the development of culture of the people in the region which represents the present and future of our people".
