The Southern hemisphere with be opening its gates to the many keen skiers and snow sport fanatics next week. In Chile and Argentina there has been a large variation of snow fall, some fields with very little snow and others with a nice base of 20cm. This season the two most southern countries of South America will be opening four new lifts and Chile’s first gondola.
The opening dates for the popular ski fields in Chile are as follows:
La Parva: Introducing a new triple chairlift in 2012. They will be opening a brand new chairlft which will give access to five magnificent new runs amounting to over 5 km of track. More additions include a new snowcat, more apartments for the avid skier and a new cross country skiing track.
Nevados de Chillan: Opening on the 15th of June.
Valle Nevado: Opening their doors to the extreme skiers on the 22nd of June. The Valle Nevado complex is expanding with numerous new developments such as two new beginner’s slopes, two new apartments, and a newly introduced canopy ride with a 500ft decent. Perhaps, the most impressive addition would be the new 70 cabin gondola starting from the visitor’s day park up to the mountain restaurant named Bajo Zero.
Portillo: Welcoming people to the field on the 23rd of June. This year they are opening a newly remodeled gym and the new “Insider’s Camp” for skiers will take place during Wine Fest.
Villarrica-Pucon: Opening on the 29th of June.
El Colorado: Opening their field on the 9th of July. The resort has already received a nice base of 20cm so far.
In Argentina the opening dates are as follows:
Caviahue: Opening their gates on the 15th of June.
Las Lenas: Introducing the new season on the 16th of June. The las Lenas Resort will welcome their valued patrons with a newly installed Minerva II Chairlift.
Cerro Castor: Opens their doors on the 22nd of June. This season Cerro Castor is upping its family friendliness with an extended beginners ski area and newly installed magic carpet lift for easy maneuvering, new security netting and renewed rental equipment.
Catedral Alta Patagonia: Welcoming the new season on the 23rd of June. This year expect some well-groomed runs, Catedral has invested in three new snowcats. Also a new signaling system has been installed at the base of the lifts, along with a new ticket office so that you can get on the snow quicker than ever.
Chapelco: Opening on the 23rd of June. Chapelco is upping the technology for their clients with magnetic ski passes and a smartphone app, along with specialized instructor camps, new modules and shapers.
